In the year 2000, the red carpet was covered in denim. Brittney and Justin definitely took this trend to another level causing audiences then to admire and now to cringe. Other fashion trends during the Oscars and VMA’s included low rise jeans and crop-tops. Check out Pink and J’Lo’s outfits at the VMA’s, for example. Lopez bleached this outfit with a pastel white, while Pink went more bold and furry with her fur coat and gold crop top.

The year 2005 pulled in the straps and added the leopard pattern to this year’s red carpet walk. Gwen Stefani and Lindsay Lohan took this direction in their attire at the VMA’s to their advantage. Nude lips was another stylish addition to any ensemble as Alicia Keys and Beyonce are quick to show.

Bright yellows and ravenous black hues overcame the vibrant red carpet in the 2007 Oscars and VMA’s. Check out Jennifer Aniston and Jessica Alba’s duo, for example; they were just a couple out of many celebrities who decided to take on the bold colors of black and yellow. ‘Pockets’ were another hit at the Oscars and VMA’s in the year 2007. Maggie Gyllenhaal and Sandra Bullock inspired the world with dresses designed with pockets.

2010 took out the straps and added some glitter to the red carpet. Strapless dresses were a big hit; Sandra Bullock, Amanda Seyfried, and Kate Winslet were just a few of the many who adopted this fashionable twist. On top of this amiable style, some took it upon themselves to glitter and ruffle it up. Jennifer Lopez and Amanda Seyfried, for example applied this style to their stunning red carpet glam.

In 2011, celebrities decided to embrace the red carpet with various shades of rouge to their gowns. Anne Hathaway, Sandra Bullock, and Jennifer Hudson nailed this trend at the 2011 Oscars. V-neck style dresses were also very popular; the dresses Celine Dion and Camilia Alves walked on the runway prove this. Although the dresses were different in style, the v-neck addition pulled in some symmetry to them all.

2012 was a year to take the train to the red carpet. The train and mermaid style dresses were a very popular addition to the ensemble of celebrity fashion. Meryl Streep, Jennifer Lopez, and Octavia Spencer, for example, adopted this particular fashion in a variety of colors and techniques. Some celebrities also wore dresses inspired from previous generations.;Rose Byrne for example, portrayed a 70’s look with her ‘black sequin gown’, while Shailene Woodley wore a dress that was influenced from a style worn by Marie Antoinette in the 1700’s.

Celebrities went to ‘the ball’ on the red carpet in 2013. Many applied large ‘Cinderella-like’ ball gowns to inspire and impress. Although they all taylored this style to fit their individuality, the trend definitely spoke.

Amy Adams used a feathered style, while Jennifer Lawrence used a more curvy silhouette. The metallic look was another characteristic of the attire worn by many celebrities. Naomi Watts, for instance, used a blue and silver metallic look, while Renée Zellweger took on a metallic gold.

High necked, choker style dresses and pale colors dazzled the red carpet in 2014. Portia de Rossi, Anne Hathaway, and Emma Watson used the high neck style to bring symmetry and class to their figures. Cate Blanchett and Maria Menounos, on the other hand, used pale, light colors to brighten and enlighten their looks at the Oscars that year.

Asymmetrical and halter-top dresses were the stars of the show on the red carpet in 2015. Gweneth Paltrow and Sophie Hunter used the asymmetrical lining in their dresses along with the romantic colors of pink and red. Hannah Bagshawe and Felicity Jones, on the other hand, used the halter-top style to emphasize a bold black and pearl white.

The v-neck style and pastel colored dresses were the hit of the town on the red carpet in 2016. Cate Blanchet, for example, applied the v-neck and mint colored dress that beautifully complimented with her fair skin. Emily Blunt and Jennifer Jason Leigh, on the other hand, adopted the pastel colors of pink to bring out their best look on the red carpet.

Gold and Black painted the red carpet in 2017. No matter the style, the colors were illustrated among the celebrities the night of the oscars. Emma Stone, Dakota Johnson, and Jessica Biel all went bold with a metal gold. On the other hand, Brie Larson and Alicia Vikander were draped in a gorgeous black.

In the 2018 Oscars, there was a trend of metallic lined dresses as well as one of illustrating tradition and culture. Jennifer Lawrence and Sally Hawkins, for example, went for a gold and silver, metallic look.
